What is a CVB?

A convention and visitors bureau (also called destination marketing organizations-DMO) are is a not-for-profit organization charged with representing a specific destination and most are largely funded by hotel occupancy taxes. For meetings both small and large, CVBs give meeting planners access to a range of services including checking for hotel and meeting space availability and arranging for site inspections. CVBs also link planners with local service companies from motorcoach companies and caterers to off-site entertainment venues.

What planners say...

"“The Dallas CVB and convention center staff were a delight to work with from start to finish. They quickly addressed any of our concerns and were a true partner with us throughout the entire planning process. It was truly amazing service.”"

"The New Mexico Municipal League holds several meetings each year in Las Cruces, and we always look forward to coming back. One of the largest events was our 50th Anniversary Annual Conference in 2007, which had a record attendance of 978 participants. We were faced with many logistical challenges, but the Las Cruces CVB made it all happen without a hitch. From very early on, their efficient staff helped us figure out all available options for events’ locations, resources for catering, exhibits set-up, staffing, security services, entertainment options and much, much more. "“When asked about the success of Pittcon 2009, at a time when global economies are struggling, I always include the support and efforts of the CCTB as a contributing factor to our success. Your tagline is “We’re Glad You’re Here!®”, and that tagline was also our sentiment to the CCTB while we were in Chicago…”We’re Glad You’re Here – For us!” You’re an awesome group. Thank you.”"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Greenville to visit the Hyatt Regency and explore the city as a possible meeting site for our annual meeting (500-700 people). Greenville has the amenities we need for our meeting, is pretty central in our region, and is not as expensive as Charlotte and Atlanta. I hope to convince our board to not only commit for 2010 but also to return many times in the upcoming years." "
